Jerry Mabena

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Jerry Mabena, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Motsamayi Tourism Group, is a seasoned business leader who is renowned for his expertise in tourism, marketing and property management. With a background as CEO of Thebe Services, he adeptly oversaw a diverse portfolio of subsidiaries and associate companies under Thebe Investment Corporation, spanning financial, tourism, media, energy (petroleum services) and property management sectors.

 

Holding a degree in industrial psychology and economics from Rhodes University, Jerry furthered his education with a diploma in project management from Damelin College and a certificate programme in accounting and finance from Wits Business School.

 

Jerry’s illustrious career prior to joining Motsamayi Tourism includes senior roles at esteemed advertising firms and well-respected property and event & exhibition management firms. With a wealth of experience and a history of successful ventures, Jerry continues to drive innovation and excellence in the tourism industry through his role at Motsamayi Tourism Group and as Chairman of the Tourism Business Council of South Africa.

Brett Hendricks

Brett Hendricks

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Brett Hendricks, the chief operating officer (COO) of Motsamayi Tourism Group, transitioned to this role after a successful 7-year tenure in finance. He began his journey in the group of companies in financial management and corporate finance, coupled with his passion for the tourism sector and extensive management experience. This led to the pivotal role as general manager of Thebe Services within Thebe Investment Corporation in late 2013, before transitioning into his current role of COO.

 

Acknowledged for his contributions on various boards within the current portfolio and tourism industry, and renowned for his adeptness in number crunching and his strategic approach to problem-solving and operational execution, Brett has consistently excelled in senior management roles throughout his career.

 

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in accounting from the University of the Western Cape and an Honours degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He completed his articles with BDO Spencer Steward CT.

 

His diverse expertise and strategic vision continue to drive operational excellence and innovation within Motsamayi Tourism Group.

Cobus du Plessis

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Cobus du Plessis, who is the chief financial officer (CFO) of Motsamayi Tourism Group, initially held the position of group financial manager at Thebe Tourism Group (now Motsamayi) since late 2011, ascending to the CFO role early in . His extensive background in financial management and auditing, coupled with his profound passion for the tourism industry and technical expertise, renders him an invaluable asset to Motsamayi Tourism Group.

 

Cobus is a chartered accountant with a Bachelor of Accounting degree and an Honours degree from the University of Stellenbosch. He completed his articles at Nolands Cape Town in 2011, passing both Board exams on his first attempt and earning admission to the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.

 

Recognised for his adept problem-solving approach, technical acumen and prowess in operational execution, Cobus has consistently thrived in senior management roles throughout his career. He has actively contributed to the Audit and Risk Committee of Club Travel, and he also represented Thebe Tourism on similar committees for other former investments now outside the Motsamayi Tourism Group.

Judiet Barnes

CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER

Judiet Barnes, chief marketing officer (CMO) of Motsamayi Tourism Group, has over 2 decades of experience in marketing. Her journey within Motsamayi commenced in 2011 as marketing manager and transitioned to her current role as CMO early in 2021.

 

Her expertise lies in the creative aspects of the business, encompassing brand management, creative product design and strategic marketing across the group of companies. She combines strategic thinking with creativity and a profound passion for tourism.

 

Judiet holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication and brand management from Vega School of Brand Communications, and graduated top of her class in leadership in hospitality from the University of Cape Town (UCT) Graduate School of Business.

 

She is highly regarded for her leadership in marketing and brand management, adept project management, creative thinking and marketing strategy development, as evidenced by her consistent success throughout her career. With a diverse background spanning strategic creative direction, graphic design and various marketing roles, her journey culminates in her current leadership position.
