Thebe Group unveils plans for new tourism projects

Thebe Tourism Group, the tourism arm of Thebe Investment Corporation (TIC), is concluding agreements with rural communities and partners to develop and manage key and strategic iconic attractions in Mpumalanga and the Eastern Cape, Jerry Mabena, CEO of Thebe Services, said in Durban on Friday (6 May 2016) – ahead of the Tourism Indaba in the city.

“We are also exploring other opportunities in areas such as KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape as part of our expansion drive in the hospitality sector, under the umbrella of transformation-committed Thebe Tourism Group (TTG).”

Spirits were high and hats were colourful at TTG’s 15th anniversary cocktail celebration at Moyo uShaka. Here, Mabena addressed the vibrant crowd:

“These new projects come on the back of our proven record of success in managing  attractions. We understand that we have a bigger role to play than simply providing tourism services – which is why community involvement is a key part of the equation.

“That role includes the creation of these services where they do not exist,” he added.

Thebe Investment Corporation – founded by the Batho Batho Trust, of which the original trustees were Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Reverend Beyers Naudé and Enos Mabuza – estabished Thebe Tourism Group in 2001.

“TTG is a leading light of true transformation in the South African tourism sector. We  are proud of our people and our ideas – which together continue to reflect a passion for sharing our heritage, and our African cultures with the world,” Mabena said.

“Our aim at TTG is to be a world-class pan-African group of companies,” he concluded.

TTG subsidiaries include Thebe Reed Exhibitions, Tour d’Afrique, Travelex Africa, First Car Rental, Club Travel and the Cape Point Concession.
